// CULTURE FORWARD

CULTURE to move us FORWARD

Focusing on indigenous ways of knowing as a tool for the prevention of high risk youth behavior.

WELCOME RELATIVES

Self-harm among Native youth has been increasing at an alarming rate. American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth have the highest suicide rate among all populations. Most suicides in AI/ANs occur in that 15-34 age groups. It is clear that there is an essential need to focus on the needs of young people.

By putting a focus on culture as a tool for prevention, bridging important facts relating to progress, bringing experts together for important dialogue, including the powerful voice of Native youth, we have an opportunity to create a team for powerful change. Connecting Indigenous ways of knowing as well as current research and dialogue driven by youth, there is great opportunity to learn from one another.

WHY WE EXIST

  • Build a strength-based coalition to support and empower one another.
  • Have a clear purpose of your role in suicide prevention, sharing ideas for better outcomes.
  • Uplift organizations doing work in Indian Country doing excellent work in Native communities.
